With two locations and a distribution center in Doral, Sweetness Bake Shop & Café hits the spot with their creative combination of flavors, some of which are so unique, they’ve become synonymous with Miami. Their signature desserts, including the Maple Bacon Cupcakes, Cake n’ Shakes, Guava & Passion Fruit Flan and Key Lime Dessert Shots support an ever-changing menu that also includes limited-edition and seasonal flavors. Their Cuban-style Tiramisu and Flan de Coco with caramelized coconut and pineapple confit were a hit at Anne Burrell and Emilio Estefan’s Botran’s Medianoches & Mixology event at this year’s South Beach Wine and Food Festival.

The Diaz and Perez family-owned business initially opened in South Miami in March 2010. Soon after, they generated attention when they were invited to participate in a Bravo TV marketing campaign to promote Top Chef Desserts. The best-kept secret in Miami turned into a regional favorite. The demand was so great that in December of that year, they launched Sugar Rush – the very first dessert truck in South Florida. By July 2013, they opened their second store in the City of Hialeah, and soon after, made it onto Zagat’s 50 States, 50 Donuts list with their Guava & Cream Cheese Donut. Sweetness has been acclaimed by Food and Wine Magazine as having one of the Nation’s Best New Cupcakes, and Miami New Times named it as Miami’s Best Bakery.

“A family that bakes together stays together, and that’s the premise behind my family’s labor of love. Everything we do is a cooperative effort, and it’s all made from scratch, using the finest quality ingredients including Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, fresh fruits, whole milk, pure cane sugar, whole grain flour, creamy butter, world-renowned chocolates and liquor such as Maker’s Mark Bourbon, Bailey’s Irish Cream and Bacardi, to name a few,” says part owner Stephanie Diaz. With an impressive menu of over 300 Cupcakes, Sweetness Bakeshop offers ten flavors a day, seven of which are considered “house” favorites; therefore, they’re always available. The other three flavors rotate from the list of 300+ flavors. With the exception of a few, all can be made into cakes. In addition, the shop offers a variety of sweet treats including Whoopie Pies, unique cookies, non-traditional donuts, dessert shots, cake-filled milkshakes, bars, bread pudding, and a variety fried Deeptreats and house-made marshmallow that come in several flavors including mango and cotton candy.

The café portion of the shop features a daily lunch special, nine signature sandwiches, salads and soups. During the weekends, it offers brunch from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m., with a variety of delicious options including mimosas, breakfast sliders, Cake Batter Pancakes and WTFrench Toast. Craft beer and wine are available at the sunset location, and soon will be available in Hialeah.
